WINNERS!!

Hi Everyone,

Happy Easter Monday! Thank you so much for your patience. Shanna and I have finally decided on the winner of the HOW TO BE movie review contest. We are both in total agreement that the review written by Sabrina Beaufort-Langridge (QLD) is our favourite. The runner ups for this contest are : Melissa Cane (NSW) and Jocelyn Bateson (QLD).

Thank you so much for everyone who has participated in this contest. The winners should receive their prizes either sometime this week, or next week (at the latest).

Here is Sabrina's film review. I hope you can all see why we picked her as the winner.

HOW TO BE Film Review, written by Sabrina Beaufort-Langridge:

If youʼve reached the age of twenty-five, chances are you have experienced
your quarter-life crisis, and if you successfully navigated yourself through the
post-teenage wasteland of emptiness and despair due to a lack of purpose,
then you will identify with How To Be. If you havenʼt, you will still enjoy this
independent British film written and directed by first-timer Oliver Irving,
starring Robert Pattinson.

Pattinson has recently made a name for himself as an actor in major
Hollywood fantasy films, but in How to Be, he takes on the role of a character
entrenched in reality, playing the twenty-something Art, a man living with the
undigested pain of his childhood.

After being dumped by his brutally honest ex, Jessica (Alisa Arnah), he moves
back into his parentʼs home where, despite his best efforts, the bonds of
family just arenʼt there. As we become further aware of Art and his existence,
we learn he is a lowly super-market employee and aspiring musician who
volunteers at an adult respite centre in his spare time. He ponders and
questions and tries to connect, without great success turning to the only
constants in life, agoraphobic friend, Ronnie played by the scene stealing
Johnny White and high school mate Nikki Fierce (Mike Pearce) for help.
The relationship shared by the three does little to assist Art on his journey to
self-actualization, but does provide the majority of humor for the film. In his
bid to find that elusive thing called “happiness”, Art decides to take matters
into his own hands and hires a personal therapist, Dr. Levi Ellington, (Powell
Jones), to trail around after him and sort through his issues and become the
fully-functioning member of society his parents wish him to be.

As Pattinson wanders around London, in his too short gray trousers -
characterising a man who is forced to take care of himself, but doesnʼt quite
know exactly how - he proves he is an actor of range and ability, a Johnny
Depp for "Generation Me". And first time feature director, Irving shows a keen
eye for relationship-based narratives and does remarkably well coaxing a
performance out of his cast that is both heartrending and amusing.
The most impressive aspect of Art is despite seeming hopeless and
misdirected, he is, as the film moves on, determined not to give up, and in a
film that could easily run with clichés, instead it decides to move in the
opposite direction and it is this, that provides the humor that completely
balances this film.

This film may not appeal to hard-core Pattinson fans due to the nature of the
narrative, but it is a tender story of a hopeless man who doesnʼt give up hope,
and in this reviewerʼs opinion, How to Be begs for a second screening. 5
stars.

To everyone who has submitted their reviews, thank you very much. We are glad and surprised that so many of you have taken the time to write the reviews, and I must say that I've read some very good ones. Despite all of that, we are aiming to announce the winners on this blog, by the end of this week. Once again, thank you so much for submitting your reviews.

Ticket Exchange Day

Hi Everyone,

I'm sorry for leaving it this late, but we have been going through our options and it just doesn't seem realistic to organise an extra-day for Ticket Exchange. We weren't able to find a place, time or date that is suitable, and at the moment, the tickets are not with me yet.

If all of you can come at around 6 pm (or even earlier) on the screening day, this would help ensure that everyone is seated before 7 pm. There are a few of you who have mentioned that you'd like to help us during the day, and we really appreciate that. On the day, we will have more than enough people to make sure that the ticket exchange will run smoothly and efficiently.

Please bring your e-cons with you, and some form of picture ID (just in case it's needed). We will have a list of all your names with us...so hopefully, there won't be any confusion or delays.

Thank you and looking forward to see all of you soon,

I've been getting some e-mails from PayPal users stating that they have yet to received their E-Confirmation.

I'm sorry to have made you waiting, here's what you should do if you haven't got your e-confirmation:

To those who paid for their tickets on February 11 - Feb 14
You should have already received your e-confirmation by now.
If you have yet to receive it please contact me (Shanna) at howtobeau@gmail.com with the subject line 'PayPal/E-Con'.
Put in important details such as name, email address, number of tickets, and date of payment.

To those who paid for their tickets on February 15 - 20:
I have yet to send you your e-confirmation.
I apologize for the wait but I'm currently in the process of moving from Jakarta (Indonesia) to Brisbane -- which is why I haven't much time to deal with the payments.
I'm arriving in Brisbane early on Saturday morning so, hopefully I'll be able to fill in the e-confirmation and send it to you before Monday.

Refund Policy, Exchange Dates, and Other Important Stuff

Dear friends,

First thing first: these past few days we have been getting a few emails asking for a refund for their tickets. While those who have emailed us before this post will be getting their requested refund, we would like to inform you that since today tickets are non-refundable.

There are two reasons why we've decided to apply the non-refundable policy; firstly, this event is organised independently by a small team which means basically we use our own resources in order to make this event happen. Secondly, the procedure to do a refund takes up a significant amount of our time and, we're swamped with work as it is already.

Having said that, we're very sorry and we ask for your understanding regarding this matter.

Secondly, e-confirmation can be exchanged for tickets one hour before the screening , at the door. But, to avoid long queue, we are planning to do exchange on other dates as well. Details on that will be published later.

Thirdly, as we've stated before this event is independently organised. Any help from you guys to boost ticket sales and promote the event will be greatly appreciated. If you have any ideas and suggestions on how to promote the event, don't be shy to give us a shout out at howtobeau@gmail.com with the subject "Ideas / Suggestions".

Last but not least, there will be a contest where you can win exclusive and limited How To Be merchandises. We'll update you on that soon :)

Thank you so much for supporting us, can't wait to see you all at the screening!

Sincerely,
How To Be Screening Organisers

Bank Transfer

Hi Everyone,

I've been having a lot of problems trying to figure out where most of the money we receive for the 'How To Be' ticket payment are coming from. Could you please write your name or mobile phone number (and please let us know about this on your email...) as a reference when you send the money and not HOW TO BE...because that seems to be what is written on most of the bank transfer statement I received.

I have received more than 15 transfers with only HOW TO BE written as a reference and I can't find out who they're from. Almost 10 of those transfers are for the same amount of money, which makes it really hard to distinguish.

At the moment I can only send e-confirmations to people who have written their names as a reference. I apologise for the delay, but please understand that I can't write out a receipt until I'm sure that I'm giving it to the correct person.

If you are one of the people who wrote 'HOW TO BE' as a reference on your Bank Transfer - could you please send us a receipt or any other way of showing us that you've deposited the money to our account?

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

How To Be Screening Organisers

E-Confirmation

Dear Friends,

Some of you were sent an e-confirmation from us yesterday and must be getting confused as the e-confirmation we sent was a blank pdf form or a blank jpeg image.

Please ignore that e-confirmation.

I was testing out different formats for the e-confirmation and made a human error of sending a blank one to everyone.

Don't worry about this as Cilla and I will send you the actual e-confirmation by this weekend.
This is how the e-confirmation looks like:

The e-confirmation is a static pdf file with a unique confirmation code for each buyer. You have to bring a printed version of the e-confirmation to exchange it with the movie tickets. We will announce the exchange dates soon.

My apologies for any inconvenience caused by this matter and thank you so much for supporting this event :)

Sincerely,
How To Be Screening Organisers

POLL about Payment Option

Hi Everyone,

We are having some issues about getting a PO Box for the Money Order payment option. It is costly to get a PO Box (we have to hire it for an entire year) and we're not sure how many of you are interested in getting Money Order to justify opening one.

Would you mind voting on the POLL we've just created, on the top-right side of this blog? Please choose your preferred payment option (you can choose more than one option).

Thanks so much for helping us out. We really appreciate that you are taking the time to do this.

Movie Classification and Ticket Sales

Hi Everyone,

I've just received a letter from the Australian Government Classification Board saying that 'How To Be' movie is rated M(A)15+. This means that anyone under the age of 15 will not be allowed to watch the movie unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Tickets to the event will cost $15 per person and they will be available for purchase shortly. We will have three different avenues which you could choose to pay for the ticket. You could pay by PayPal (you need to open a Paypal account and a credit card is required), Bank Transfer or Money Order. Please note that we are not accepting any cash payments at this stage.

We will update you with all the details very soon. Thank you very much for your patience.
